Biden and Trump Clash in Heated First Debate
Biden, 79, Takes Aim at Trump's Age and Fitness
Trump Fires Back, Calling Biden "Sleepy Joe"
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump traded barbs and personal attacks in their first debate of the 2024 presidential election Thursday night.
Biden, who is 79, repeatedly questioned Trump's age and fitness for office, while Trump called Biden "Sleepy Joe" and accused him of being "not sharp."
The debate was marked by interruptions and personal attacks. At one point, Biden said that Trump "doesn't know what he's talking about." Trump responded by saying that Biden "doesn't know what he's doing."
The two candidates also clashed over taxes, healthcare, and climate change. Trump accused Biden of being a socialist, while Biden said that Trump's policies favor the wealthy.
The debate lasted for 90 minutes. Biden's voice was raspy at times, and he appeared to struggle to deliver his lines. Trump, on the other hand, was sharp and energetic.
The debate was the first of three between Biden and Trump. The next debate is scheduled for October 15th.
